Reverse Osmosis Provides Safer Water for the Home

Whether you're a business or a home owner who wants water that is healthier for the body, a reverse osmosis (RO) system can give you the results that you want. The process of reverse osmosis involves using high pressure to push water through a membrane while leaving contaminants behind. Particles in the water larger than water molecules are removed through the membrane, including potentially toxic substances.

One of the things that is removed through reverse osmosis is lead, which may be found in areas with old water systems. Too much lead in the body can lead to serious health issues, including brain and nerve damage, high blood pressure, and infertility. Children are especially susceptible to the effects of too much lead consumption.

The First Phase of Reverse Osmosis Systems Design: Feed Water Analysis

A full and precise feed water analysis must be provided before a reverse osmosis system is designed. The water analysis report is meant to show the form and the concentration of all chemicals in the feed water. The chemicals consist of dissolved ions, silica, colloids, and organic (TOC). Specific groupings of anions and cations create sparingly soluble salts in the water and scaling of a reverse osmosis membrane may occur when the salts are concentrated within the reverse osmosis element beyond their solubility limit.

Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Systems: Fouling and Scaling Treatment

Reverse osmosis water treatment systems are a very efficient method to create safe drinking water. Depending on the water quality, it is important to add on pre-treatment to the reverse osmosis water treatment system in order to maximize the system’s performance and life span. Certain elements can create fouling and scaling on the reverse osmosis membrane. This causes major problems in the reverse osmosis water treatment system and can damage the entire system if left unmaintained. There are a few different options for pre-treatment, but those options can only be determined once a proper water quality analysis has been conducted. Depending on the quality and the actual types of contaminants in the feed water, one or a combination of the following should be added on to the reverse osmosis system: chemical injection systems, pre-filtration, and/or a water softener or deionization system.

Reverse Osmosis Provides Superior Water Filtration

Reverse osmosis filtration system is used to treat ocean water, waste-water, and even brackish, cloudy well water, to make them fit for human consumption. This water purifying system is one of the most advanced on the planet and is completely safe.

A good example of osmosis is the swelling of potatoes after you soak them in distilled water for some time. This indicates that the potatoes have absorbed the water, in a natural attempt to achieve a balance of water molecules in the potatoes and the distilled water outside. Reverse osmosis works the other way. It releases water molecules from a dense solution or source. However, reverse osmosis does not happen naturally. It needs applied pressure to push water molecules out of the dense solution.
